Zebulon, NC --- Kris Harvey scored on an eighth inning passed ball to break a 3-3 tie to lead the Carolina Mudcats to a 5-4 victory over the Huntsville Stars before 5,338 fans at Five County Stadium.
Harvey started the inning with a single to left against Patrick Ryan (L, 2-4). After a failed sacrifice attempt by Jesus Delgado, Cameron Maybin doubled Harvey to third. Ryan then pitched up and inside to Manuel Mayorson, a pitch that was mishandled by Angel Salome for a passed ball to put Carolina (6-5) ahead 4-3. Mayorson then hit a sacrifice fly to left to score Maybin for a 5-3 lead.
Chris Mobley (S, 13) earned his sixth straight save despite allowing a solo homer in the ninth to Cole Gillespie.
Carolina trailed 1-0 into the first, facing former Mudcats starter Nic Ungs, who was making his first start in over two months. The Mudcats evened the game on a throwing error, but could not break the game open despite filling the bases with none out.
Huntsville took a 2-1 lead in the fifth before Carolina tied things up in the sixth against reliever Mike Jones on a bases-loaded walk to pinch-hitter Grant Psomas.
The Mudcats went ahead 3-2 in the seventh on a double by Gaby Sanchez only to have the Stars (5-6) tie the game in the eighth against Jesus Delgado (W, 5-1).
An unearned run against Delgado tied the game in the Stars' eighth, but the Mudcats rallied one final time for their second straight win over the Stars.
Brett Sinkbeil pitched six innings, but recorded a no-decision. Sinkbeil allowed four hits and two runs. Ungs worked five innings on four hits, permitting one run in also receiving a no-decision.
Josh Johnson (0-0, 3.38) starts the homestand finale on Sunday afternoon at 2:00 PM ET against Troy Cate (0-0, 0.00).
