Zebulon, NC --- Carolina scored three runs in the fourth inning to give them the lead over Huntsville, and went on to beat the Stars 5-2 Friday night in front of 4,958 fans at Five County Stadium.
Chris Volstad (W,4-3) pitched six innings for Carolina, giving up three hits and two runs, one of them earned.
Trailing 1-0 in the bottom half of the fourth inning, Carolina (5-5) used four hits to take a 3-1 lead. Andy Jenkins hit a lead-off single to right, followed by a double to left from Manuel Mayorson to give Carolina runners on second and third with nobody out. Brett Hayes hit a sacrifice fly to right field to score Jenkins, and Grant Psomas hit a triple to center field to score Mayorson. John Raynor then singled to left field to score Psomas to cap off the inning.
Donovan Hand (L,0-2) pitched six and a third innings for the Stars, surrendering five runs on nine hits.
After After two perfect innings from Carolina reliever Jarrett Santos, Chris Mobley (S,12) came on to earn the save.
Carolina will send Brett Sinkbeil (3-7,5.89) to the mound against Nic Ungs of Huntsville at 7:15 ET.
