Chattanooga Lookouts (39-36) 4, Carolina Mudcats (41-34) 3
Chattanooga, TN --- The Chattanooga Lookouts scored twice in the eighth to steal away a 4-3 verdict from the Carolina Mudcats at AT&T Field on Saturday night.
After Lookouts' starter Ben Jukich and Carolina's Willie Glen dueled to a 0-0 game through 4 1/2 innings, Chattanooga (2-3) scored a pair against a tiring Glen in the fifth. Glen walked four hitters in a row after retiring the first man, and was relieved by Matt Yourkin, who allowed only a sacrifice fly for a 2-0 Chattanooga advantage. Glen was making just his third start since a one-month stint on the disabled list.
Jukich, who tossed his first career complete game against the Mudcats in May, carried a three-hit shutout into the seventh before a single by Josh Willingham preceded a two-run homer by Gaby Sanchez to knot the game.
The Mudcats (3-2) nosed ahead 3-2 in the eighth on a two-out double by Chris Coghlan to score John Raynor from first. However the Lookouts pushed across two against Jesus Delgado (L, 4-1) in the eighth. Shaun Cumberland singled to begin the inning, followed by another single to left by Eric Eymann. Willingham raced across toward the line, but could not backhand the shot, which rolled under his glove to the wall for a two-base error to allow Cumberland to score the tying run. Three batters later, Justin Turner hit a sacrifice fly to score Eymann with the eventual winning run.
The six-game series ends on Sunday afternoon at 2:15 PM ET with Brett Sinkbeil (3-6, 5.47) starting against Sam LeCure (5-4, 4.04).
