Chattanooga, TN --- For the second straight night, Carolina pitchers stymied Chattanooga's bats to another six-hit shutout as the Mudcats passed the Lookouts 2-0 at AT&T Field on Thursday night.
Daniel Barone (W, 3-1), Jarrett Santos, Jeff Gogal and Chris Mobley (S, 10) combined on the six-hitter as the Mudcats (3-0) maintained sole possession of first place in the Northern Division in the second half.
The Mudcats scored the game's only two runs in the fourth against Travis Wood (L, 1-3), who was making just his fifth Double-A start. John Raynor singled, then took second on a grounder. Josh Willingham singled Raynor in, then Willingham was doubled to third by Gaby Sanchez. Cameron Maybin's ensuing grounder brought Willingham in for a 2-0 lead.
Barone worked five-plus innings, issuing a leadoff walk in the sixth before being relieved by Santos.
Carolina pitching recorded consecutive shutouts for the first time this season, as the Lookouts have not scored in 21 2/3 innings when they scored a run in the sixth inning on Tuesday night.
Sanchez extended his hitting streak to 13 games with his league-leading 25th double.
Chris Volstad (3-2, 2.92) starts Friday night against James Avery (3-4, 5.56) at 7:15 PM ET from AT&T Field.
