Zebulon, NC --- Chris Coghlan hit a walk-off double to right field to score John Raynor from second base as Carolina edged the Birmingham Barons 3-2 in front of 2,976 fans Thursday night at Five County Stadium.
Birmingham scored both of their runs in the first inning to get out to a 2-0 lead. After an infield single from Victor Mercedes and a run scoring double to left center field from Javier Castillo, Stefan Gartrell hit a double to left to score the Baron's final run of the game.
Daniel Barone of Carolina pitched seven innings, allowing just two runs off of seven hits. Jeff Gogal (W,3-0) pitched two scoreless innings, giving up just one hit for Carolina.
Justin Cassel pitched six innings for the Barons, allowing two runs on nine hits.
John Raynor went 3-4 for Carolina, was hit by a pitch, stole three bases, and scored all three runs for the mudcats.
Brian Omogrosso (L,1-3) pitched two and two-thirds innings for the Barons before getting tagged with the loss. He left the game with two outs in the ninth, just before Raynor scored from second.
Carolina (36-31) will send Chris Volstad (3-2,2.96) to the mound against Dewon Day of Birmingham (39-28) Friday night at 7:15 ET.
