Carolina Mudcats (33-28) 10, Jacksonville Suns (28-33) 7

Zebulon, NC --- John Raynor hit a lead off homerun in the first inning for Carolina as he set the tone for heavy hitting in a 10-7 victory over the Jacksonville Suns Friday night in front of 5,473 at Five County Stadium.

Every Carolina starter got at least one hit against the Suns, including starting pitcher Rick Vanden Hurk. Brett Hayes led the way, going three for three including two RBI doubles and one homerun. Also, with the exception of Vanden Hurk, every starter for the Mudcats scored a run.

Jacksonville (28-33) was led by Juan Gonzalez, who went three for three, including a lead-off homerun to start the rally for the Suns in the fifth inning. The homerun was followed by a walk to Adam Godwin and back to back doubles by Ivan Dejesus JR and James Tomlin. Jamie Hoffman hit a sacrifice fly to left field to score the final run of the inning for the Suns, giving them a 6-3 lead.

After a solo homerun by Cameron Maybin in the fifth, Carolina (33-28) scored three runs in the sixth to take a 7-6 lead, followed by two more in the eighth to them a 9-6 lead. Brett Leach (L,1-1) got the loss after surrendering the sixth inning runs.

Vanden Hurk pitched five innings for Carolina, allowing six runs on five hits.

B.J Lamura pitched five innings, surrendering four runs on six hits.

Jarrett Santos earned the win (W,1-1) after pitching a scoreless sixth inning for the Mudcats.

Carolina will send Daniel Barone (1-1,3.38) to the mound against Jacksonville’s Cody White at 6:15 ET Saturday at Five County Stadium.
