Montgomery Biscuits (27-31) 11, Carolina Mudcats (32-26) 4
Montgomery, AL --- Wade Davis went six innings en route to his sixth victory of the season as the Montgomery Biscuits defeated the Carolina Mudcats 11-4 at Riverwalk Stadium on Monday night.
Davis (W, 6-3) allowed his only two runs in the top of the first inning before shutting down the Mudcats (32-26) over the next five innings.
Carolina trails first place Huntsville by 2 1/2 games with 12 to play in the first half, pending the Stars' nightcap of their doubleheader at Chattanooga.
The Biscuits (27-31) reeled off the game's next 11 runs, including two in the first against Carolina starter Daniel Barone (L, 1-1) to tie the game. Montgomery went ahead with two runs in the third inning, then added three in the fifth against reliever Matt Yourkin on a three-run double with two outs by Sergio Pedroza.
Montgomery put the game away in the seventh with four against Jeff Gogal. Erold Andrus singled in a run, then with the bases loaded and two outs, right fielder Lorenzo Scott overran a flyball near the line, dropping for a three-run error for an 11-2 Biscuits lead.
Cameron Maybin, who tripled in the first and singled in the second, hit a long two-run homer against Jino Gonzalez in the ninth inning to cap a 3-5 night. Maybin is now fifth in the Southern League with 10 homers, including three in the last two games.
Brett Sinkbeil (2-5, 5.09) starts the series' fourth game on Tuesday night against Kevin Lynn (0-0, 5.40) at 8:05 PM ET.
