Carolina Mudcats (31-25) 7, Montgomery Biscuits (26-30) 6

Montgomery, AL --- Cameron Maybin's seventh inning sacrifice fly chased in the winning run as the Carolina Mudcats moved a game cloesr to first place with a 7-6 victory over the Montgomery Biscuits before 7,319 fans at Riverwalk Stadium on Saturday night.

Maybin's flyball scored John Raynor from third to crack a 6-6 tie as the Mudcats (31-25) inched to within three games of co-leaders West Tenn and Huntsville in the Northern Division.  Both the Diamond Jaxx and Stars dropped their games on Saturday night.

Carolina lost a pair of two-run leads during the contest, but finally closed out a game in the ninth after losing three late-inning leads at Tennessee earlier this road trip.  The Biscuits (26-30) put runners at first and third with one out against closer Chris Mobley (S, 6) in the ninth before Mobley fanned the final two hitters of the game.

Carolina went ahead 2-0 in the fourth on consecutive RBI-doubles by Chris Coghlan and Gaby Sanchez.  Gaby Martinez hit a grand slam in the fourth to put the Biscuits ahead of Rick Vanden Hurk for a 4-2 lead, but Carolina quickly tied the game in the fifth on a two-run shot by Kris Harvey, his second in two games.  The Mudcats forged ahead in the sixth thanks to two more extra base hits.  Sanchez and Lee Mitchell started the frame by doubling against former NC State pitcher Mike Prochaska, then a double-play ball by Manuel Mayorson scored another.

In the Biscuits sixth, Chris Nowak tied the game with a two-run homer against Matt Yourkin to tie the game.

Tim Wood (W, 1-0) earned his first Double-A victory, pitching 2 2/3 innings of one-hit ball, fanning two.  Vanden Hurk worked five innings, allowing five hits and four runs while whiffing six in his first start since April 12th.  Vanden Hurk was activated from the disabled list prior to the game.

Ryan Tucker (3-2, 1.38) starts the second game of the five-game set Sunday afternoon at 3:05 PM ET against Jake McGee (5-2, 3.59).
