Sevierville, TN --- Doug Deeds doubled twice, driving in two runs while Mitch Atkins fanned eight en route to winning his second straight start as Tennessee defeated Carolina 8-3 at Smokies Park before 4,465 fans on Friday night.
The Smokies (22-33) scored three times for an early lead in the third inning thanks to a double into the right field corner by Deeds and a two-run single by Jake Fox. Darell McCall (L, 1-2) permitted 11 hits over five innings, fanning five.
Tennessee scored four in the fifth inning thanks to four hits and three Mudcats errors to put away the series. The Smokies took four of five from Carolina (30-25).
Atkins allowed four hits over seven innings, including fifth inning homers by Lee Mitchell and Kris Harvey.
The Mudcats' 10-game road trip continues on Saturday night against the Montgomery Biscuits on Saturday at 8:05 PM ET.
