Tennessee Smokies (19-32) 6, Carolina Mudcats (29-22) 5

Sevierville, TN --- Former NC State Wolfpack Matt Camp singled home Nate Spears with the winning run in the last of the 10th as Tennessee pushed past Carolina 6-5 in 10 innings at Smokies Park on Memorial Day evening.

Camp hit a two-strike pitch from reliever Chris Mobley (L, 3-1) into left field to score Spears from third, which capped a two-run rally.

Cameron Maybin had hit a solo homer to lead off the top of the 10th against Dumas Garcia (W, 1-0) to put the Mudcats (29-22) ahead 5-4.  However, the Smokies game-winning frame started when Chris Robinson drew a walk from Mobley, then scored on a triple to right by Spears.  One out later, Camp singled home the clinching run.   Tennessee (19-32) took a 1-0 lead in the first against Ryan Tucker on a sacrifice fly by Jake Fox, then after a Manuel Mayorson double-play ball in the second scored Gaby Sanchez with the tying run, the Smokies reclaimed a one-run lead on a homer by Spears in the second.

The Mudcats tied the game against Donnie Veal on a groundout by Andy Jenkins in the sixth, then the teams exchanged two-run innings with Tennessee scoring twice against Tucker and Jeff Gogal in the seventh, but Carolina nicking Grant Johnson for two in the eighth on RBI-singles by Sanchez and Mayorson.

Tucker allowed four runs over 6 2/3 innings, his most runs permitted in any of his 11 starts this season.

The Mudcats remained three games behind first-place West Tenn with 19 to play in the first half.  Chris Volstad (3-2, 3.14) starts the second game of the series on Tuesday night against Tanner Watson (1-1, 4.22) at 7:15 PM ET.
