Chattanooga Lookouts (21-19) 6, Carolina Mudcats (22-18) 2
Zebulon, NC --- Ben Jukich authored his first-ever nine-inning complete game as the Chattanooga Lookouts defeated the Carolina Mudcats 6-2 at Five County Stadium before 3,324 fans on Wednesday afternoon.
Jukich (W, 3-2), who beat the Mudcats (22-18) for the second time in two starts this season, threw a pair of seven-inning complete game outings last season at High-A Sarasota. Jukich allowed runs in the first and second innings, but blanked the Mudcats over the final seven frames, finishing just over 110 pitches.
Chattanooga (21-19), which claimed its second straight series over Carolina, scored four times in the first inning against Marc Lamacchia (L, 0-1), then added two more in the second. Lamacchia lasted just 2 2/3 innings in his second Double-A start. The Mudcats' bullpen worked 6 1/3 scoreless innings on just one hit the remainder of the game.
Carolina scored a first inning run on a groundout by Chris Coghlan, bringing home John Raynor who had singled, advanced on a grounder and stolen third. In the second, a double by Manuel Mayorson brought in Lee Mitchell from first.
Gaby Sanchez had two of Carolina's six hits, extending his hitting streak to a team-high 10 games.
Ryan Tucker (2-2, 0.97) starts the opener of five at first-place Huntsville Thursday night at 8:05 PM ET against Steve Hammond (5-1, 2.96).
