Chattanooga, TN --- Gaby Sanchez doubled in three runs as part of a four-run eighth inning, snapping a scoreless deadlock as Carolina blanked Chattanooga 4-0 at AT&T Field on Friday night.
After a bases loaded walk to Chris Coghlan scored the game's first run with two outs in the eighth, Sanchez's third hit of the game blitzed down the left field line against reliever Robert Manuel to clear the bases.
Ryan Tucker, Jesus Delgado (W, 3-0) and Jeff Gogal combined on the four-hitter, the Mudcats' third shutout of the season.
Tucker worked 5 2/3 scoreless innings and left the game in the sixth after striking out Cody Strait with the bases loaded. Delgado entered to retire Craig Tatum to end the inning.
Meanwhile, Chattanooga (12-10) starter Daryl Thompson fanned 11 over his 7 2/3 innings, allowing three of the four runs in the eighth. Thompson left the game with the bases loaded and two out, but a walk to Coghlan scored the first run.
Sanchez had three of Carolina's (16-6) six hits.
Aaron Thompson (0-1, 2.66) starts Saturday's middle game of the series against Ramon Ramirez (1-1, 3.94) at 7:15 PM ET.
