Tennessee Smokies (9-9) 6, Carolina Mudcats (13-5) 3
Zebulon, NC --- Matt Craig had four hits to lead the Tennessee Smokies past the Carolina Mudcats 6-3 at Five County Stadium on Monday night.
Craig had two doubles and two RBI as the Smokies (9-9) snapped Carolina's five-game winning streak. The Smokies scored a run in the first inning on a dropped flyball by John Raynor, then another in the second on a single by Issmael Salas. Aaron Thompson (L, 0-2) suffered the loss, working five innings on five hits and striking out four.
Carolina (13-5) tied the game in the fourth against Donnie Veal (W, 1-0) on and a groundout by Brett Hayes and a throwing error by Kyle Reynolds.
The Smokies took the lead for good in the fifth on a single by Craig, then posted other runs in the seventh and ninth against the Carolina bullpen.
Chris Coghlan and Cameron Maybin each had two hits for the Mudcats.
Willie Glen (3-0, 0.73) starts Tuesday night against Tennessee's Mitch Atkins (1-1, 5.52) at 7:15 PM ET.
