Carolina Mudcats (10-4) 7, Jacksonville Suns (5-9) 0

Jacksonville, FL --- Willie Glen and three Carolina relievers combined on the Mudcats' second shutout in three games, a seven-hitter to lead first place Carolina to a 7-0 series-clinching victory in Jacksonville at the Baseball Grounds on Thursday night.

Glen (W, 3-0), who moved into the Southern League lead in victories, made the spot start ahead of Rick Vanden Hurk, who was placed on the disabled list on Sunday.  Glen, making his first affiliated baseball start since June 14th, 2004 while pitching for the Montgomery Biscuits in the Tampa Bay organization, allowed just three hits in five innings, fanning four en route to his third win in six appearances.  Glen had been pitching in the Northern League for practically the last three seasons in Gary, Indiana, compiling a 32-9 record and leading the Railcats to a pair of league championships.

The Mudcats opened up a two-game lead in the North over both Huntsville and Tennessee.

Matt Yourkin, Jeff Gogal and Chris Mobley collaborated for the final four innings, permitting four hits and just one walk.  Yourkin's appearance was his first of the season, returning from a toe injury.

Lorenzo Scott was the Mudcats' offensive force, bombing a three-run homer in the fifth, then tripling home another run in the seventh.  Scott also threw out a Suns' baserunner at home plate in the sixth while the Mudcats (10-4) were leading 4-0.

Carolina went ahead against Suns starter Jesus Castillo (L, 0-1) in the bat of a two-out eye in the fifth.  Glen, who was batting in a game for the first time since 2003, grounded a single under the diving glove of shortstop Ivan DeJesus with two outs and none on.  Cameron Maybin lined the next pitch for a right field single.  Scott then drilled the next pitch of Castillo's into the last row of the right field bleachers for his first Double-A homer.

The Mudcats play the series finale against the Suns (5-9) Friday night at 7:05 PM ET with Brett Sinkbeil (1-1, 3.27) starting against Mario Alvarez (0-1, 7.27).  Carolina opens a five-game homestand Saturday night against second-place Tennessee.
