Carolina Mudcats (9-3) 2, Jacksonville Suns (4-8) 0

Jacksonville, FL --- Ryan Tucker and two Carolina relievers combined on a four-hit shutout, leading the Mudcats to their fifth straight victory, 2-0 over the Jacksonville Suns at the Baseball Grounds on Tuesday night.

Tucker (W, 1-1) outdueled highly-touted prospect Clayton Kershaw (L, 0-3) over six innings en route to his first Double-A victory.  Tucker worked six scoreless innings, working out of a two-on, none-out situation in the third inning, and stranding five Suns baserunners during his start.

The Mudcats pushed through in the sixth against Kershaw, stringing together three consecutive singles, with Gaby Sanchez lacing a single to right to score Chris Coghlan.  Coghlan singled with one out, followed by a hit to center by Cameron Maybin.  Both runners advanced on a wild pitch ahead of Sanchez's hit.

Jesus Delgado relieved Tucker in the seventh and proceeded to pitch out of a jam, fanning pinch-hitter Bobby Malek and Adam Godwin with runners at second and third to end the inning.  Delgado then walked four of the five batters he faced in the eighth, but escaped.  After a walk started the inning, Delgado saw a screaming line drive caught by Sanchez at first base and converted into a double play.  Delgado remained in and walked the next two hitters before he was relieved by Todd Doolittle, who induced a pop up to end the inning.  Doolittle converted on his Southern League leading fifth save with a perfect ninth inning.

The Mudcats (9-3) matched their 2007 long winning streak, and maintained their one-game lead in the Northern Division.

Carolina continues its series against the Suns (4-8) Wednesday afternoon at 1:05 PM ET with Aaron Thompson (0-1, 1.80) starting against Marlon Arias (1-1, 7.71).
