Montgomery Biscuits (3-4) 2, Carolina Mudcats (4-3) 1
Zebulon, NC --- One day after pounding out a season-high 14 hits, the Carolina Mudcats offense was stymied by a trio of Montgomery pitchers, falling 2-1 on Thursday night at Five County Stadium.
Of Carolina's five hits, four were of the infield variety. Only Brad Davis' double against the left field wall reached the outfield. Davis later scored in the fifth inning on a groundout by Manuel Mayorson. That run drew the Mudcats (4-3) to within 2-1, but the Biscuits' Wade Davis was too strong.
Davis (W, 2-0) permitted four hits and two walks over six innings, strikeout out six en route to his second straight victory.
Montgomery (3-4) took a 2-0 lead in the second inning against Ryan Tucker (L, 0-1), building a two-out, none-on rally. Sergio Pedroza singled and scored on a double into the right field corner by Gaby Martinez.
After a walk, Rashad Eldridge doubled to right to score Martinez for a 2-0 lead. Roger Deago and Jeffrey Kamrath combined for the final three innings as the Biscuits evened the five game series 1-1.
Tucker lasted five innings for the second consecutive start, walking one and fanning five while stranding six baserunners.
Four Carolina relievers combined to retire the final 12 batters of the game. Aaron Thompson (0-1, 1.80) starts Friday night against Montgomery's James Houser (0-0, 1.80) at 7:15 PM ET.
