Montgomery, AL --- The Montomgery Biscuits swept a doubleheader over the Carolina Mudcats, running their winning streak to a franchise-record 10 games, while drowning Carolina's playoff hopes with 9-1 and 2-1 defeats at Riverwalk Stadium on Tuesday night.
In the first game, the Biscuits chased off Carolina starting pitcher Gaby Hernandez (L, 9-10) before the first inning ended, scoring nine times on nine hits. The Mudcats scored their lone run in the fifth against Biscuits starting pitcher Chris Mason (W, 15-4) on a double by Chase Lambin. Mason won his league-leading 15th game and lowered his league-best ERA to 2.53.
In the nightcap, Blake McGinley (L, 6-9) permitted back-to-back home runs to the first two batters he faced, then shut down the Biscuits the rest of the way, but Carolina could not rally. The Mudcats had a second and third situation with none out in the third against former NC State pitcher Mike Prochaska, but could not score. Rex Rundgren hit a grounder in the fifth to score Carolina's only run.
Carolina has dropped 13 straight games at Riverwalk Stadium, and saw its elimination number shaved to two with regard to first-place Huntsville.
Chris Volstad (3-1, 1.07) starts Carolina's final road game of the season Wednesday night at 8:05 PM ET against Tony Peguero.
