Zebulon, NC --- The Carolina Mudcats batted around during a five-run seventh inning to salvage the final game of their five-game series with Mississippi, downing the Braves 6-4 at Five County Stadium before 5,782 fans on Saturday night.  

The Mudcats (26-29, 54-71) overcame a 2-1 deficit against ex-Mudcat reliever Wes Wilkerson (L, 0-2) to assume a 6-2 advantage for fourth-time Double-A starter Chris Volstad (W, 2-1).  Frank Moore doubled in two runs during the frame, which was ignited by a pinch-single from Jai Miller.  Eric Riggs hit a two-base hit, one of his four hits in the game, to knot the game at 2-2.   

Volstad worked seven innings en route to his second consecutive Double-A win.  Volstad was sharp in six of his seven frames, only stumbling with his command in the fifth, but surrendering to only run as he stranded the bases loaded.  Volstad permitted a solo homer in the first inning to TJ Bohn.  

Trailing 2-0 into the sixth against Braves starter James Parr, Carolina pushed across its first run on the first of Moore's doubles.  Parr, who was authoring a four-hit shutout entering the inning, was relieved after facing six hitters during the sixth, with Brad Nelson walking a batter to load the bases, but striking out Rex Rundgren to end the inning.   

Mississippi (19-36, 61-64) scored twice in the eighth against Matt Yourkin, but Brandon Villafuerte (S, 1) notched his first save by recording the final four outs.   

Eric Riggs first four-hit game of the season led the 13-hit charge, with Lee Mitchell singling three times.  The Braves, who entered the series with the second-worst minor league record in the second half, won the first four games of the series.  Mississippi claimed the season series with Carolina 8-2.  

Carolina picked up a game on first-place Huntsville with the victory, and stands seven games behind the Stars with 15 to play in the regular season. 

The Mudcats open a critical five-game set with the Stars on Monday night in Huntsville, AL.  Jimmy Serrano (4-2, 3,70) starts the opener against Corey Thurman (4-6, 4.80) at 8:05 PM ET.
