Mississippi 9, Carolina 7
Zebulon, NC- The Mississippi Braves (16-35) exploded for a six-run third inning Tuesday night to defeat the Carolina Mudcats (25-26) by a 9-7 mark at Five County Stadium.
Mudcats starter Jimmy Serrano was breezing along when trouble came his way with two away in the third inning. Serrano got a full count to first baseman Kala Ka’aihue but walked him and then broke down. Mississippi would continue with five straight extra base hits, sending ten batters to the plate to take a 6-3 lead. The Braves would score two more runs an inning later by a Diory Hernandez RBI double.
Carolina came back with force in the home portion of the fourth, scoring four runs and bringing the tying run to the plate. Dante Brinkley continued his hot swinging Tuesday night with a two out homer to start the rally. Brinkley ended the night with two solo shots and a single.
Chase Lambin tripled in Eric Riggs and reached home by a Moises Hernandez wild pitch. Lee Mitchell ended the Mudcats scoring with a solo homer, his team leading 20th.
Carolina fails to climb above .500 for the first time all season but will look to get back there Wednesday night with Chris Seddon (5-8, 4.92) taking the mound. Ryan Baerlocher (0-1, 7.47) will oppose for the Braves. First pitch is scheduled for 7:15.
