Carolina 4, Jacksonville 3
Jacksonville, FL --- Blake McGinley worked six shutout innings en route to his third straight victory as Carolina downed the Jacksonville Suns 4-3 at the Baseball Grounds on Sunday.
McGinley (W, 6-7) permitted just two hits and a walk to earn his sixth victory of the season.
Carolina (25-25, 53-67) scored a third inning run against Suns' starter Alvis Ojeda (L, 4-6) on a two-out single by Eric Riggs, then knocked out Ojeda with three in the fourth inning. Ryan Bear, who had two of Carolina's seven hits, looped an opposite-field single on top of the right field line with the bases loaded to score two.
McGinley then drove in his first professional run by executing a safety squeeze with one out to score Jai Miller from third against reliever Cory Wade.
Brandon Villafuerte pitched two strong innings whiffing four before giving the ball to closer Chris Molbey in a non-save situation. Mobley allowed a leadoff double to Blake Dewitt, an infield single to Kevin Howard then a three-run homer to AJ Ellis on an 0-2 pitch. Mobley then hit Alberto Concepcion to put the tying run aboard, but fanned Anthony Raglani on a 3-2 change-up with Concepcion running. Concepcion was thrown out by catcher Brad Davis, with Juan Gonzalez grounding out to end the game.
Carolina handed Jacksonville its third straight loss, matching the longest streak this season for the Suns, and their first three-game home skid all year. The Mudcats moved back to the .500 mark for the fourth time in the second half at 25-25 with 20 games remaining in the second half.
After an off-day on Monday, Carolina returns to Five County on Tuesday night against the Mississippi Braves at 7:15 PM ET. Jimmy Serrano (4-1, 2.91) starts against Mississippi's Moises Hernandez (2-1, 5.45).
