Carolina 5, Jacksonville 2
Zebulon, NC- The Carolina Mudcats (19-20) pounded out 11 hits Tuesday night to defeat the Jacksonville Suns (26-13) by a 5-2 mark at Five County Stadium.
Carolina started their scoring early, bringing in runs in each of the first three innings. Chase Lambin had his second two-run homer in as many nights. Lambin’s 12th home run on the season came in the first inning scoring himself along with Eric Riggs. Lambin picked up his third RBI on the night an inning later when his single scored Johnny Raburn to give Carolina a 3-1 lead.
The Mudcats picked up two more runs, a Brad Davis RBI-double in the third and a Rex Rundgren groundout in the seventh. Mudcats starter Blake McGinley picked up his fourth win on the season, going five innings while giving up two runs off just four hits, all doubles.
McGinley played off the early two run lead, giving up a pair of runs in the second and fifth inning. Jesus Delgado, Scott Nestor, and Chris Mobley gave McGinley plenty of help in relief to preserve the lead. All three relievers combined for four innings of hitless baseball as Mobley picks up his team-leading seventh save on the year.
Carolina looks to take four out of five from the first place Suns tomorrow night in the series finale. Jesus Silva (0-3, 9.17) will get the starting nod for Carolina as he opposes Zach Hammes (5-5, 3.80).
Silva started the season with High-A Jupiter before bouncing around between AAA Albuquerque and Carolina. Silva, making his fifth start for Carolina, has a 2007 total record of 5-7 with a 4.88 ERA. First pitch is scheduled for 7:15 tomorrow night.
