Jacksonville 12, Carolina 7

Zebulon, NC --- Alberto Concepcion hit for the cycle as Jacksonville clubbed Carolina 12-7 before 5,572 fans at Five County Stadium on Saturday night.

Concepcion, who homered in his fourth at-bat against reliever Matt Yourkin, became the first Suns player since 1998 to bat for the cycle.

Concepcion doubled in the second, singled in the third and tripled against the centerfield wall in the fourth.  Concepcion finished the night with five RBI.   For the second straight game, the Suns (15-5) raced to an 11-0 advantage.

Jesus Delgado (L, 5-6) permitted six runs and eight hits over two-plus innings.  Delgado was relieved after the first six Suns batters hit safely in the third inning.

Carolina trailed 11-0 on Friday night into the seventh inning before feverishly rallying, and Saturday would be no different.  The Mudcats (8-12) were shutout through five innings against Jacksonville starter Mike Megrew (W, 6-5), but scored three times in the sixth thanks to an RBI-double by Lee Mitchell and a run-scoring single from Ryan Bear.  Carolina added two against reliever Greg Miller in the seventh to close to within 11-5.

The Mudcats belted a pair of solo homers in the eighth to trim the deficit to 12-7.  Eric Riggs hit his second homer of the series off of the bench, then Johnny Raburn hit just his sixth career home run in over 2,800 at-bats.  Each blast occurred against Suns reliever Mark Alexander.  However, the Mudcats would creep no closer, stranding two baserunners in the ninth inning.

Mitchell extended his hitting streak to nine games, one shy of his team-best 10-gamer in late May.  Rex Rundgren had two of Carolina's nine hits, going 2-4 with an RBI.

The Mudcats dropped the series 3-1 heading into the Southern League All-Star break.  Carolina will return to action on Wednesday night in Jackson, TN against the West Tenn Diamond Jaxx at 8:05 PM ET from Pringles Park.
