Carolina 9, Tennessee 0
Zebulon, NC- The Carolina Mudcats took the series against Tennessee Friday night by a 9-0 margin at Five County Stadium.
With a 3-0 lead heading into the fifth, Carolina blew the game wide open the next two innings. Mudcats centerfielder Jai Miller’s RBI double cleared the bases after three walks put them on. Miller picked up his 16th double and 23rd run batted in on the season.
An inning later, All-star third baseman Lee Mitchell jacked an Adalberto Mendez pitch to left field scoring three Mudcats run. Mitchell leads the team with 13 home runs and 45 RBI.
The 9-0 lead would remain as Carolina records their first consecutive shutout, and fifth on the season. Gaby Hernandez (4-7) picked up the win, lasting five innings and gave up just three hits. The loss falls to Smokies starter Justin Berg (4-6).
Dante Brinkley continued his tear after coming back from the DL, going three for four at the plate. Brinkley is six for eight since being activated on the roster Thursday.
There was an 18 minute power delay in the fifth inning as the stadiums lights loss power. Carolina hits the road as they start a four game series against the first place Chattanooga Lookouts. Jimmy Serrano will get the start tomorrow night for Carolina.
