Jacksonville 1, Carolina 0
Jacksonville, FL --- AJ Ellis singled home the winning run in the bottom of the 8th inning culminating a Jacksonville sweep over Carolina on Thursday night at the Baseball Grounds.
After the Suns (3-0) claimed the rain-suspended game from Tuesday 4-1, James Russ dueled with Mike Megrew deep into the nightcap.
The Suns filled the bases with one out in the eighth against reliever Blake McGinley (L, 2-6), then Ellis singled past the left side of a drawn-in infield against new pitcher Scott Nestor to win the second game 1-0.
With the sweep, Carolina (0-3) has lost its first three games of the second half, and a club-record 12 consecutive games on the road.
Chase Lambin hit a solo homer in the first game to account for the Mudcats' only run of the night.
Rick Vanden Hurk and Jarrett Santos will pitch Friday's doubleheader at the Baseball Grounds, with the opening game beginning at 6:05 PM ET.
