Carolina 5, Chattanooga 4

Zebulon, NC-   The Carolina Mudcats (25-41) extended their winning streak to four games after a three-run ninth to defeat the Chattanooga Lookouts 5-4 Wednesday night at Five County Stadium.

Second baseman Eric Riggs got the ninth inning rally started with a solo homer over the right field fence to make the score 4-3. Riggs provided all the offense to that point, as his two-run shot in the sixth tied the game at 2-2. After a couple of walks, pinch hitter Vince Harrison hit a clutch full-count, two-out hit to left field to tie the game, scoring Lee Mitchell.

With the game tied 4-4 and still two outs, catcher Brett Hayes ended the night with a single, scoring Ryan Bear from second.

Major Leaguer Josh Johnson made his second major league rehab start for the Mudcats. The right-hander got a no-decision, pitching 4.2 innings allowing four hits and striking out seven. 

Blake McGinley picks up his second win on the season, pitching 1.1 innings in relief. Despite a strong start from former Reds Minor League Player of the Year Richie Gardner, the Arizona grad picked up a no-decision in seven innings allowing two runs.

With the game tied at two after six innings, the Lookouts scored one run in both the seventh and eighth to cause the late inning heroics by the Mudcats.

Carolina looks to continue their wining streak tomorrow night at Five County as Gaby Hernandez (3-6, 4.37) will pitch at 7:15. The Lookouts will put southpaw Camilo Vazquez (3-6, 4.59) on the mound.
