Carolina 11, Tennessee 9

Zebulon, NC - The Carolina Mudcats (24-41) continued to play spoiler, defeating the Tennessee Smokies 11-9 on Monday night, another come from behind victory at Five County Stadium.

The Mudcats rallied from a 5-0 deficit to take its fourth game out of five from the former first place Smokies (33-30). Carolina scored three runs in an inning three different times Monday night on their way to sixteen hits, the third highest on the season.

The Mudcats bats came alive when second baseman Chase Lambin hit a solo shot to make the score 5-1. An inning later with the bases loaded and two outs, first baseman Grant Psomas cleared the bases with his 14th double on the season.

Carolina batted an inning later with the score 7-4 Tennessee. Carolina would tie the game after a pair of scoring plays. Right fielder Ryan Bear sent a slicing shot to left field just over the foul pole, Bear’s fourth homer on the year. Jai Miller’s double turned into a run after Rex Rundgren’s single. Miller ended the night going 3-5, scoring two runs.

After taking the lead 8-7 in the sixth, Carolina would expand its lead with three runs in the seventh. All runs came in off Lambin’s three run shot, his second home run on the night. Lambin, a switch hitter, homered from both sides of the plate and stands with seven for the year.

Mudcats reliever Carlos Martinez picks up his first win on the season, pitching one inning in the sixth. Mauro Zarate and Jimmy Serrano pitched one inning in relief. Blake McGinley earns his first save on the season, pitching a scoreless ninth inning.

The Mudcats will take Tuesday off before welcoming the Chattanooga Lookouts (28-37) Wednesday night at Five County. Josh Johnson will get the start as righty Richie Gardner makes the start for the Cincinnati Red Double-A team. First pitch is 7:15.
