| Carolina 8, Mobile 5 (11)
Mobile, AL --- Chase Lambin drove home the tie-breaking run in the 11th inning as Carolina rallied past Mobile on Memorial Day afternoon 8-5 at Hank Aaron Stadium.
Lambin battled relief pitcher AJ Shappi (L, 0-2) to a 10-pitch at-bat as he sailed a sacrifice fly against the left field line to score Grant Psomas. Brett Hayes doubled home two more as the Mudcats (20-31) took the series opener over the BayBears (26-25).
Carolina scored six of its eight runs with two outs while recovering from a 3-0 deficit after three innings. Lambin homered in the eighth to trim the Mobile lead to 4-3.
Ryan Bear doubled in Lee Mitchell to tie the game with two outs. The Mudcats pushed ahead 5-4 in the ninth when Mitchell doubled in Lambin from first, but Mobile tied the game on a single by Javier Brito in the last of the ninth.
Daniel Barone worked six innings in earning a no-decision. Barone allowed a two-run homer to Justin Upton in the first, then sacrifice flies in the third and fourth.
Blake McGinley (W, 1-4) notched his first win of the season pitching two scoreless innings.
Mitchell collected his third straight three-hit game, and drove in a run for the seventh straight game, two shy of a Carolina record. Upton also tripled and singled, coming a double shy of the cycle.
Gaby Hernandez (2-5, 4.04) starts Tuesday night at 8:05 PM ET against Esmerling Vasquez (3-4, 3.83).
