Sevierville, TN --- Brett Carroll dropped a tape measure home run in the eighth inning to tie the game, then a sacrifice fly by Chase Lambin put Carolina ahead by one leading to a 6-4 win over Tennessee on Monday night at Smokies Park.
Carroll, making his first at-bat of the game, walloped Billy Petrick's second pitch for a 450-foot home run against the top of the left field scoreboard to even the game 4-4. Carroll then singled in an insurance run in the ninth as Carolina (10-15) won its second straight series 3-2.
The Mudcats trailed 3-0 before Kevin Randel slugged a two-run homer to center in the fifth to draw Carolina within one of first-place Tennessee (11-12).
Wes Letson (W, 2-0) earned his second victory in his second Mudcats appearance, while Kurt Koehler (S, 4) notched his second save of the series.
Carolina is off on Tuesday, and opens a five-game homestand Wednesday night at Five County Stadium at 7:15 PM ET.
