Montgomery, AL --- A six-run fifth inning spoiled the Double-A return of Carolina's Trevor Hutchinson as Montgomery defeated the Mudcats 7-1 at Riverwalk Stadium on Friday night.
Hutchinson (L, 0-1) missed all of 2005 after surgery to repair a 90% tear of his rotator cuff, taking the mound in Double-A for the first time since his final start of 2004 against Huntsville. Hutchinson allowed a two-out run in the second, but witnessed a large fifth inning that knocked him from the game.
The first-place Biscuits (14-9) sent 11 batters to the plate, scoring six - which matched the most destructive inning against the Mudcats (9-14) this season.
Carolina mustered just five singles in its second straight loss in the series, but remained only four games behind first place Chattanooga and Tennessee in the North.
Jason Cromer (W, 1-1) earned the win with six scoreless innings. Down 7-0 in the seventh, Carolina scored its only run of the game with two outs. Edgar Gonzalez doubled for the third straight game, then scored on a two-out single by Kevin Randel.
Jose Garcia (2-2, 2.67) starts Saturday night for Carolina against Biscuits RH Jim Magrane (10-7, 3.27) at 8:05 PM ET.
