Zebulon, NC --- Matt Maniscalco's single in the ninth inning snapped a 3-3 tie to send Montgomery by Carolina 4-3 at Five County Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The Biscuits (33-31) salvaged their second win in the series on the fifth and final day by building a two-out, none-on rally against Chris Mobley (L, 1-3). Jeremy Owens, who homered in the fifth against starter Adam Bostick, reached on an infield single, then advanced on a throwing error by Edgar Gonzalez. Jason Pridie was intentionally walked ahead of Maniscalco's single to right-center.
Carolina (30-35) rallied from 3-0 down with three runs in the seventh inning. Brett Carroll jumpstarted the inning by doubling off the left-field wall, with Patrick Arlis being hit in the knee by Biscuits' reliever Josh Kranawetter. Rex Rundgren flared a single to right to fill the bases ahead of Frank Moore's groundout to first to bring Carroll home.
Juan Salas (W, 3-0) entered the game to retire Gonzalez on a drive to second baseman Elliot Johnson, but Salas walked Lee Mitchell to fill the bases. Ryan Bear floated a two-run single to left-center to tie the game. Bostick worked five innings, permitting six hits and striking out eight hitters. Bostick made 104 pitches, including just five during a perfect second inning.
Carolina, which finished its homestand 4-6, travels to Birmingham on Monday to open a five-game set with the Barons on Tuesday night. The 10-game road trip will conclude in Chattanooga beginning a week from Monday.
