Mudcats Announce New Pitching Coach

Zebulon, NC --- The Florida Marlins have announced the hiring of former major league pitcher Rich Gale to be the pitching coach for the Double-A Carolina Mudcats for the 2006 season.

Gale, 52, was 55-56 in his major league career which started in 1978 with a career-best 14 wins with the Kansas City Royals. Gale made two starts in the 1980 World Series against the Philadelphia Phillies, including the series' clinching game for the Phillies opposing Steve Carlton in Game Six.

Cooking classes with Chef Chris Joyce are now being offered at 7:00 pm on the last Tuesday of each month. Experience the culinary arts live, with plenty of opportunities for questions and observations. Jupiter, Fla --- The Carolina Mudcats Ace from a year ago, Josh Johnson continues to make a push for a spot in the Marlins rotation. The big right hander has six strikeouts and just six baserunners allowed in nine innings this spring.

 

A standout at Double-A Carolina last season, Johnson enjoyed a brief stint with the Marlins last September and made his first Major League start on Sept. 30, giving up two runs while striking out seven in 5 1/3 innings. He wasn't involved in the decision in a game Florida won, 5-2. In four games with the Marlins, he had a 3.65 ERA in 12 1/3 innings.
