Greetings!

Happy New Year from the Carolina Mudcats! All of us here at Five County Stadium are getting geared up for another exciting season and before you know it we will be playing baseball. Here is just a quick update on things happening in our world.

The time has finally come! The opening of the newest section of Interstate 540 leading from Capital Blvd. at Triangle Towne Center to the Highway 64 Bypass in Knightdale is set for Tuesday, January 16th at 11:00 a.m.

This long awaited opening of the new I-540 section will be very beneficial to many Mudcats fans, new and old. Are you one of those people that say, “It just takes too long to get to Five County Stadium,” then it is time to change your thinking! It takes just a mere 25 minutes to get from the Capital Blvd. exit to Five County Stadium. There are no stop lights or stop signs, you can just cruise right into the ballpark!

The I-540 opening is just in time for the Carolina Mudcats 2007 season, set to start on Monday, April 16 at 7:15 p.m. against the Mobile BayBears. For Mudcats ticket information call (919) 269-CATS or visit www.gomudcats.com.
HOTSTOVE LEAGUE READY TO PLAY BALL!

The Raleigh Hot Stove League will host its annual banquet promoting the game of baseball at every level, from Little League to the Major Leagues.

The Raleigh Hot Stove League will host its 57th Annual Baseball Banquet on January 23, 2007 at the Jane S. McKimmon Center on the campus of NC State University. Dinner will begin at 6:30pm with the award presentations to follow.

Among the honorees this year is UNC Head Baseball Coach Mike Fox. Fox will receive the Will Wynne Award, given each year to the North Carolinian having the best year or biggest impact on baseball. The Willie Duke Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented Raleigh Hot Stove League President Bill Law. Fox guided the Tar Heels to the College World Series, Law retired as the Durham Bulls Public Address Announcer after 12 seasons.

Other awards and winners include:

Media Award: John Manuel, Baseball America

North Carolina College Player of the Year: Andrew Miller, UNC

Jim “Catfish” Hunter Award (Wake County High School Player of the Year): Tim Smalling, Broughton High School

Mills Special Achievement Award: Miracle League of the Triangle

The New Year has begun and baseball season is fast approaching. With the season set to begin on April 16 at 7:15 p.m., against the Mobile BayBears, you don’t want to miss out on the great opportunities the Mudcats and Five County Stadium have to offer.

The Carolina Mudcats will be hosting their annual national anthem tryouts on Saturday, March 31 beginning at 9:00 a.m. at Five County Stadium. The tryouts will be held from 9:00 to 12:00 with registration beginning at 8:30 a.m. and will be first come first serve.

All singers, including solo and groups, wanting to sing “The Star Spangled Banner” must tryout on this date, including those who have sang in years past. All auditions must be sung a cappella. All performers will sing the national anthem on the field as if it were a real game.
