Zebulon, NC --- Sean White and two relievers combined on a nine-hit shutout as Mississippi blanked Carolina 3-0 at Five County stadium on Saturday night before 5,564 fans.
White (W, 3-3) pitched five scoreless innings, allowing six hits, while Francisely Bueno and Zach Schrieber combined for the final four frames as the Mudcats (26-31) lost for the fifth straight game.
Mississippi (25-31), which won its sixth consecutive, moved to within one game of matching its franchise record, winning seven in a row in late May to early June in 2005.
The Braves scored an unearned run against starter Anibal Sanchez (L, 2-5) in the fourth as Barbaro Canizares scored from first base on a throwing error by shortstop Edgar Gonzalez. Mississippi then pushed across two more in the fifth against Sanchez with five singles, including RBI-hits from Canizarez and Matt Esquivel.
Of Carolina's nine hits, Kevin Randel had three, while Lee Mitchell and Angel Molina each went 2-4. The Mudcats were 0-12 with runners in scoring position, and left 12 runners aboard.
Paul Mildren (3-5, 4.31) starts Sunday at 2:00 PM ET against Chris Waters (3-3, 3.75).
