Huntsville, AL --- Frank Moore had three hits, scoring three times while Jason Hill and Dennis Anderson homered as Carolina defeated Huntsville 7-5 on Saturday night at Davis Stadium.
Hill homered with two aboard in the first inning, while Anderson's was a solo shot against reliever Andy Pratt in the third. Five runs in the first two innings knocked out Ty Taubenheim (L, 0-1) to his shortest start in 18 games this season. Taubenheim was making his second Double-A start.
Ray Aguilar (W, 2-0) scattered 10 hits over five innings in earning the win. Aguilar allowed an unearned run in the first, then three in the third inning, leaving with a 6-4 lead.
Luke Lockwood, Jerrod Fuell and Mike Flannery (S, 11) combined to pitch the final four innings, allowing one run.
Moore singled in the first, doubled in a run in the second, then singled in the sixth, scoring all three times he reached.
With the victory Carolina (11-9, 52-36) moved into a second place tie with Huntsville (12-10, 41-50). Both teams trail first-half champion West Tenn by 1/2 game.
Josh Johnson (7-4, 4.42) starts the final meeting of the regular season against the Stars Sunday at 7:05 PM ET against David Bradley (3-2, 2.82).
