**Badenhop promoted to Marlins, Vanden Hurk optioned to Carolina**

Zebulon, NC --- The Florida Marlins have made a set of player moves impacting both the major leagues and the Double-A Carolina Mudcats.  

Carolina's opening day starter Burke Badenhop had his contract purchased and has been promoted to the Marlins, with Florida's #2 starter to begin 2008, Rick Vanden Hurk, optioned to the Mudcats.   

Badenhop worked 6 1/3 innings in his victory on Thursday at Mobile, allowing just one unearned run while issuing no walks.  With only four Double-A starts to his credit, Badenhop was 2-0 at Erie last August with two complete games, to go along with his Thursday outing against the BayBears.  Badenhop, a 19th round pick from Bowling Green State University, joined the Marlins on Monday for their series opener against the Washington Nationals.  He is expected to make his major league debut in a starting capacity later in the week.  

Vanden Hurk, who made his major league debut in the first week of the 2007 season after being recalled from Carolina, opened the year as the #2 starter in Florida's rotation, but struggled in his two starts with the Marlins this season, laboring through 5 1/3 composite innings and returning to the minors after compiling an ERA of 11.81.  Vanden Hurk will be slotted into Carolina's rotation beginning Saturday night against the Montgomery Biscuits.   

The Mudcats opened the season 3-2 at Mobile, and return home for their home opener against Montgomery on Wednesday night at 7:15 PM ET. Chris Volstad, another starting pitcher candidate to make his major league debut this season, will start for Carolina.
