** Carolina 6, Tennessee 5 **

Sevierville, TN --- Ryan Bear gloved a would-be game-tying line drive headed for right field to end the game as Carolina defeated Tennessee 6-5 at Smokies Park on Saturday night.

Micah Owings, Tuesday night's upcoming starting pitcher, lined a Taylor Tankersley (S, 2) pitch toward right field which Bear backhanded over his right shoulder to preserve the win.  Carolina (7-10) had built a 6-2 lead in the fourth inning, but the Smokies (6-11) trimmed it to one by the ninth.

Jose Campusano led the 14-hit assault with four, including two doubles and a steal.   Carolina scored three unearned runs in the second, highlighted by an opposite-field double by starting pitcher Adam Bostick, who did not figure in the decision.  Bostick worked into the fifth inning leading 6-3, but left with the bases loaded and none out.  Christopher Young (W, 1-0) allowed one inherited runner to score, but pitched two scoreless innings to earn his first Mudcats win.

Carolina pushed across another run in the third on a single by Angel Molina, then two more in the fourth on a Rex Rundgren double to center, followed by a single from Bear.

Tankersley, who earned his first professional save on April 10th in Mobile, allowed a one-out single in the ninth to Miguel Montero, then walked Jesus Cota with two outs before Owings, a former two-way player at Georgia Tech and Tulane, drove a 1-2 pitch to the right side, which Bear gloved.

James Russ (1-0, 2.81) starts for Carolina on Sunday afternoon at 5:00 PM ET against Steven Jackson (0-2, 3.44).
