W 3-2, L 7-5
Zebulon, NC --- Michael Tucker hit a three-run homer in the opener to lead Carolina to a doubleheader split with the Tennessee Smokies before 5,557 fans at Five County Stadium on Saturday night. Tucker's three-run homer occurred in the second inning against Adam Bass, then doubled twice in the nightcap 7-5 loss.
Yorman Bazardo (W, 4-2) earned the win in the opener, pitching six innings, allowing just a two-run homer in the sixth. Chris Resop (S, 8) registered the save with a scoreless seventh.
In the second game, Carolina (26-15) took a 2-0 lead in the second inning for starter Luke Lockwood, only to see Tennessee (18-24) score five times in the fourth to assume a lead they would not relinquish.
Ross Wolf (L, 2-2) relieved Lockwood with the bases empty, two outs and a 2-1 lead in the fourth, but the next seven hitters reached to cap the inning.
Carolina put the leading run on base in the sixth and seventh, but could not tie the game.
The series with the Smokies concludes Sunday at 2:00 PM ET with Josh Johnson (4-1, 1.91) starting against Tony Pena (0-3, 4.22). |
