L 10-2
Zebulon, NC --- Three Chattanooga home runs within two innings earned a four-game split for the Lookouts, leading to a 10-2 victory over the Carolina Mudcats on Thursday night at Five County Stadium.
Ryan Hanigan homered leading off the third to tie the game 1-1, followed by a two-run shot by Kyle Nichols to cap a five-run inning. Losing pitcher Nic Ungs (L, 1-3) also surrendered an Alex Fernandez homer in the fifth before his exit.
The Lookouts (15-19), who dropped the first six meetings of the season-series, put the game away with three in the ninth against Chris Resop.
Carolina (23-10), which lost consecutive games for just the third time this season, managed a 1-0 lead against winning pitcher Lance Caraccioli (W, 4-3) in the third inning with three consecutive singles, including a hit from James Shanks, which scored Jason Hill.
Trailing 7-1 in the seventh, Caraccioli allowed a hit to Rex Rundgren, then walked three straight hitters to force in a run and depart the game. Jason Andrew entered to retire Jeremy Hermida on a fly to left field and escaped the inning leading 7-2.
The Mudcats remain 1 1/2 behind the West Tenn Diamond Jaxx in the North. West Tenn was blanked by the Tennessee Smokies 5-0, putting its four-game winning streak to rest.
Carolina starts a six-game road trip Friday night against the Smokies at 7:15 PM ET. Logan Kensing (3-1, 2.08) starts the opener for the Mudcats.
