Zebulon, NC --- Delmon Young homered twice in the late innings, driving in five to lead the Montgomery Biscuits to an 8-4 victory over the Carolina Mudcats on Sunday afternoon at Five County Stadium.
Just two days ago, the Mudcats (21-8) owned the best record in the minor leagues, but after dropping their last two games, the Mudcats now have the third best record and have fallen out of first place in the Southern League's Northern Division for the first time in 2005.
Leading 4-3 in the seventh, Mike Flannery served up a three-run homer by Young, who hit another opposite field shot in the ninth against Chris Resop. Young finished 4-5, and ended the three-game series 8-12 with seven RBI.
The Mudcats went ahead of Brian Lockwood in the fourth inning on a pair of two-run home runs by Jeremy Hermida and James Shanks. Hermida's was his league-best 10th, and second in two games.
Logan Kensing received a no-decision in a five-inning start, allowing eight hits and three runs. Ryan Baker (L, 0-1) suffered the loss after allowing consecutive singles to start the seventh ahead of the Young homer. Resop, making his first appearance in 11 days due to a bacterial infection, pitched consistently in the mid-90s but surrendered Young's second homer and fanned two.
Michael Curry went 4-5 with a homer, two RBI and four runs scored in the Biscuits win.
Montgomery (17-13) became the first team in the league to win a series from the Mudcats. The Biscuits lead the Southern Division by 2 1/2 as they head to Jacksonville, while the Mudcats now trail idle West Tenn by a half-game in the North. Carolina will entertain the Chattanooga Lookouts (13-17) in the opener of a four-game set Monday night. Yorman Bazardo (3-1, 3.00) starts against Eddy Valdez (1-1, 5.33) at 7:15 PM ET. Carolina is 4-0 against the Lookouts this season.
