Zebulon, NC --- Delmon Young and Chairon Isenia combined for five hits and four RBIs as the Montgomery Biscuits downed the Carolina Mudcats 8-5 at Five County Stadium on Saturday night.
The Mudcats (21-7), who rallied to tie the Biscuits (16-13) on three separate occasions, fell into a first-place tie with West Tenn, who defeated Mobile 8-7. The last time the Mudcats were in a tie for first was after the first day of the regular season.
Young had three hits, including a pair of doubles, and threw out Jason Hill trying to score the go-ahead run in the third inning with a huge throw from right field. Isenia, who leads the league with 28 RBI, hit a two-run homer against Nic Ungs in the third inning and doubled in a run in the first.
Carolina trailed 1-0, 3-1 and 5-3 before tying the score each time. James Shanks paced Carolina's 13-hit attack going 3-5, while Robert Andino, Todd Sears and Chris Ashby each had two. Jeremy Hermida hit his league-best 9th homer in the third inning against Jon Switzer.
Ross Wolf (L, 1-1) allowed an unearned run over 3 2/3 innings to absorb the loss.
Former NC State shortstop Chad Orvella pitched two scoreless innings to earn his fourth save.
The rubber game of the series and final meeting of 2005 between the two clubs is set for Sunday at 2:00. Logan Kensing (3-1, 1.82) starts for the Mudcats against Brian Lockwood (0-3, 6.86).
