W 5-4

Mobile, AL --- Chris Ashby hit a grand slam in support of Logan Kensing's third victory as the Carolina Mudcats defeated the Mobile BayBears 5-4 at Hank Aaron Stadium on Monday night.

Ashby connected against Jose Overvidez (L, 0-3) on a 3-1 pitch with the bases loaded in the sixth inning.  The slam, the 31st in club history, jumped the lead to 5-0.  Kensing (W, 3-1) allowed only a sixth inning run over his start, permitting just three hits and striking out six to earn the win.

Jerrod Fuell allowed a run over his two innings, before Mike Flannery (S, 3) entered in the ninth leading 5-2.  The BayBears (9-16) staged a two-out rally to put the tying run aboard.  Mike Richardson dropped a single to left to preserve the game, and advanced on a wild pitch.  Carlin singled to right, advancing Richardson to third.  Another wild pitch scored a run before Kennard Jones singled under Todd Sears' dive at first base to draw the BayBears to within 5-4.  After a meeting with manager Gary Allenson, Flannery fanned Nick Trzesniak on three pitches to end the game.

At 19-5, Carolina still holds the best record in the minor leagues, and a 1 1/2 game lead over West Tenn in the North Division.
