Montgomery, AL --- Jon Switzer and Chad Orvella combined on a three-hitter as Montgomery split its four-game series with the Carolina Mudcats with a 3-1 victory on Sunday afternoon at Riverwalk Stadium.
Switzer (W, 3-1) pitched seven innings permitting just an unearned run in the fourth inning. The Biscuits (13-11) took a 1-0 lead against Nic Ungs (L, 1-2) in the first on a sacrifice fly by Rico Washington. Elijah Dukes blasted an opposite-field homer in the third for a 3-0 lead.
Orvella (S, 3), a former shortstop at NC State, pitched two perfect innings to record his third save of the season.
The three hits were the fewest in a game this season by the Mudcats, who fell to 18-5, still tops in the minors.
Carolina continues its 10-game road trip in Mobile, AL Monday night against the Mobile BayBears. Logan Kensing (2-1, 1.52) starts against Mobile's Jose Overvidez (0-2, 2.50) at Hank Aaron Stadium at 8:05 PM ET.
