Flannery promoted to AAA; Vargas joins Mudcats

Zebulon, NC --- The Florida Marlins have announced a set of transactions affecting the Carolina Mudcats effective for today's second game of the second half of the Southern League season.

LHP Jason Vargas has been promoted to Carolina from the Jupiter Hammerheads of the Florida State League.  RHP Mike Flannery has been sent back to Triple-A Albuquerque.

The Mudcats will be Vargas' third stop up the Marlins minor league system this season.  Vargas went 4-1 with an 0.80 ERA in five starts at low-A Greensboro, then 2-3 with a 3.42 ERA in nine starts with Jupiter.

Flannery, who was with Albuquerque from mid-May until the second week of June, was 1-0 with a 6.43 with the Isotopes, and 1-1 with 5 saves and a 2.22 ERA in 20 games during two stints with Carolina.
