L 8-1

Jackson, TN --- Yorman Bazardo allowed four runs in 1 1/3 innings in his shortest and final start for the Carolina Mudcats as the West Tenn Diamond Jaxx defeated the Mudcats 8-1 at Pringles Park on Sunday afternoon.

Bazardo (L, 8-7) permitted two runs in the first and second before being relieved by Luke Lockwood.  The Diamond Jaxx would add three runs in the sixth and another in the seventh against Ross Wolf to take one game of the three-game series, moving both teams into a virtual tie for first place in the Northern Division.

During the game, Bazardo and Mudcats reliever Mike Flannery learned they were part of a trade to the Seattle Mariners.  Minutes before the 4:00 PM ET deadline arrived, the Florida Marlins traded for LHP Ron Villone, sending Bazardo and Flannery to the Mariners.  Each pitcher will be assigned to Double-A San Antonio in the Texas League.

Lockwood worked 3 2/3 perfect relief innings, while Wolf allowed four runs on five hits over his 1 2/3 innings.  Mike McNutt made his second appearance off of the disabled list, pitching the final 1 1/3 scoreless innings.

Carolina's lone run scored in the first inning against winning pitcher Reynel Pinto (W, 7-2).  Reggie Abercrombie, who paced the Mudcats offense with two hits, singled home Robert Andino, who also had two hits.

Nomar Garciaparra continued his major league rehab for the Chicago Cubs, playing five innings at shortstop and going 1-2 with a walk and a run scored for West Tenn.  Garciaparra's rehab will be extended through Wednesday for the Diamond Jaxx.

The Mudcats continue their roadtrip on Tuesday night in ChattanoogaCarolina is 20-7 against the Lookouts in 2005, and will have Monday off.  Ray Aguilar (3-0, 1.96) will start for Carolina against Travis Chick (2-9, 5.14) at 7:15 PM ET.
