Zebulon, NC --- Chris Bass had the first two-homer game of his career to lead Carolina back into first place with an 11-1 win over Jacksonville at Five County Stadium on Sunday.
Bass, who entered the game with three home runs during the season, hit solo shots in the third and fourth innings as the Mudcats (17-11) broke away from the Suns (15-13) to claim the series two games to one.
Jeremy Hermida hit a second inning grand slam to key a seven-run outburst against Suns losing pitcher William Juarez (L, 4-3). Hermida, who doubled in the eighth inning, extended his hitting streak to 11 games. Hermida has also walked in 11 consecutive games.
Adam Bostick (W, 2-1) pitched six shutout innings, fanning nine while allowing two hits. Bostick recorded the game's first seven outs on strikeouts. Luke Lockwood pitched a perfect seventh inning, while Chris Resop threw the final two innings, allowing an unearned run in the eighth.
Reggie Abercrobmie hit his fifth homer in 15 games with a two-run shot in the eighth against Carlos Alvarez.
The Mudcats moved into a first place tie with West Tenn, which lost on Sunday. Yorman Bazardo (7-6, 3.74) starts the series opener with Chattanooga on Monday night at 7:15 PM.
