W 2-1
Chattanooga, TN --- Ray Aguilar pitched eight innings to lead the Carolina Mudcats to a 2-1 victory over the Chattanooga Lookouts at BellSouth Park on Thursday night.
Aguilar (W, 3-0) permitted just two hits, a single by Ryan Hanigan in the first, then a solo homer to Stephen Smitherman in the eighth en route to his third win without a loss.
The Mudcats (15-10) took a 1-0 lead in the first on the third of three consecutive singles. Jason Hill's knock to right scored James Shanks, who singled to right with one out. Jeremy Hermida, who extended his hitting streak to eight, punched a single to center moving Shanks to second.
Carolina moved ahead 2-0 in the fourth with an unearned run against losing pitcher Ben Kozlowski (L, 4-4). Reggie Abercrombie walked to start the inning, then advanced to second on a wild pitch. Drew Niles bunted for a hit, with Abercrombie taking third. Jeff Bannon's errant throw to first base brought Abercrombie home.
Mike Flannery (S, 12) allowed a two-out single in the ninth to register his 12th save.
The Mudcats finished their weeklong road trip 5-2 and return to Five County Stadium on Friday night to open a three-game series with the Jacksonville Suns. Josh Johnson (8-4) will oppose Suns RH Edwin Jackson (3-2) at 7:15 PM ET.
