W 4-3
Chattanooga, TN --- One day after having a 10-game winning streak at BellSouth Park broken, the Carolina Mudcats started anew thanks to a 4-3 victory over Chattanooga on Wednesday afternoon.
Frank Moore had three extra base hits, while Reggie Abercrombie hit his fourth homer in 12 games to lead the Mudcats.
With the victory, Carolina solidified its position in second place in the North, trailing first-half champion West Tenn by one game.
Moore, who tripled and scored to open the game, hit his second home run in two games, however in a bit of an unusual fashion. With one out and the bases empty in the fifth, Moore drove a pitch from reliever Jeff Bruksch (L, 3-5) to deep right-center. Outfielder Rick Asadoorian raced into the alley, getting a glove on Moore's flyball, however hot catching it. The ball ricocheted off of Asadoorian's glove, and the momentum of the ball and Asadoorian propelled the ball over the wall for a tie-breaking homer.
Abercrombie's homer led off the fourth inning and gave the Mudcats (14-10) a 3-2 lead.
Yorman Bazardo (W, 7-6) earned the win pitching five innings allowing three runs. Chris Resop (S, 19) notched a two-inning save in his return to Double-A from the Florida Marlins.
Carolina concludes its week-long roadtrip tonight in Chattanooga with Ray Aguilar (2-0, 2.25) starting against LHP Ben Kozlowski (4-3, 4.23) at 7:15 PM ET.
