L 7-6
Chattanooga, TN --- Kevin Howard singled in the winning run with two outs in the last of the ninth as the Chattanooga Lookouts salvaged the final game of a three-game series against Carolina, triumphing 7-6 Thursday night at Bell South Park.
The Mudcats, who finished their road trip 4-2, rallied from a 6-0 second inning deficit. Jason Hill's two-run single keyed a four-run third inning, while James Shanks and Jeremy Hermida hit successive doubles in the fourth to tie the game.
Nic Ungs, making his first start since Friday night's no-hitter at West Tenn, worked a hitless first inning before the Lookouts exploded for five runs on six hits in the second. Ungs settled in over the next five innings, yielding just one hit in a no-decision.
Howard's game-winning hit came on a 1-2 fastball from Chris Resop (L, 1-1). Resop allowed his first run since being sent back to Double-A from Florida.
Carolina returns home Friday night against the Tennessee Smokies at 7:15 PM ET. Luke Lockwood starts against Smokies left-hander Clint Goocher.
