Hermida Promoted to MLB
Zebulon, NC --- The Florida Marlins have announced that OF Jeremy Hermida has had his contract selected and is in uniform tonight for the Marlins against the St. Louis Cardinals at Dolphin Stadium in Miami.
Hermida, a post-season all-star right fielder, entered the season as the top-ranked Marlins minor leaguer. Hermida hit .293 with a career-high 18 homers and 63 RBI with the Mudcats. Hermida also drew 111 walks, the number two mark in the minor leagues, and stole 23 bases. Hermida led the Southern League with a .457 on-base percentage, which was also fifth in the minors, and was fourth in the loop with a .518 slugging percentage.
Hermida represented the Marlins at the Futures Game in Detroit, along with the S.L. all-star game in July.
Hermida becomes the seventh Mudcat to reach the major leagues in 2005, joining Logan Kensing, Scott Olsen, Yorman Bazardo, Chad Bentz, Chris Resop and Jason Vargas, who started Wednesday night against the Cardinals.
The Mudcats close out their series against the Jacksonville Suns on Thursday night with a rain-suspended game at 5:05 PM ET, followed by a seven-inning game. Carolina is then scheduled to head to Pearl, MS to conclude the regular season against the Mississippi Braves Friday through Labor Day Monday. A separate release will be distributed shortly regarding that series in the Hurricane Katrina ravaged area. |
