W 4-3

Zebulon, NC --- The Carolina Mudcats clinched their sixth-ever playoff berth in their final home game of the regular season with a 4-3 win over the Mobile BayBears at Five County Stadium on Monday night.

Josh Johnson (W, 12-4) surpassed his previous three-year combined win total, pitching eight innings for the victory as well as singling in two runs in the second inning.

Carlos Martinez (S, 1), making his Double-A debut, saved up the win despite allowing a run in the ninth.  Martinez, who saved 21 games at High-A Jupiter, replaced closer Chris Resop on the roster when Resop was promoted to the major leagues earlier Monday.

The Mudcats, who finished 42-25 at home, close out the regular season with an eight-game, seven-day road trip to Jacksonville, FL and hurricane-ravaged Pearl, Mississippi.

Carolina plays a 5:05 PM ET doubleheader on Tuesday night against the Suns with Ray Aguilar and Clint Sodowsky starting for the Mudcats.
